Unboxing The Nike Air fear Of God 1

If you’re yet to read our guide on this week’s most wanted releases, you’ll be forgiven for not knowing much about the Nike Air fear Of God 1. This is a shoe that’s seemingly appeared out of nowhere with very little discussion over the last few months. Sure, a few images were leaked but this basketball high-top from Jerry Lorenzo has been kept well under wraps.

Even despite the lack of hype, this is a shoe that’s already re-selling for over £1000. That said, this is December’s biggest sneaker release that you probably didn’t know about. here we take a closer look at the inspiration behind the design along with an unboxing video.

Jerry Lorenzo, LA based designer and founder of FOG, explained his inspiration in a recent interview with Nike.

“It is a shoe that should only be judged by the emotion it gives the kid when he first sees it — however it makes him feel,” says Lorenzo. “We live in a day and age when images are leaked left and right, and products are leaked without consideration and emotional attachments. I’m aiming to give a visceral experience whether the kid sees it first on Ben Simmons coming into the arena or worn by his favourite athletes on court.”

Once an athlete himself, Lorenzo wanted to bring a certain level of nostalgia to his first collab with Nike. This project was a chance to bring together innovative performance with the minimalist and signature style of fear Of God. There wasn’t any room for compromise…

“In my youth…growing up in the ’80s and finishing high school in the ’90s, contrary to what’s happening now, it was our superstar athletes and our pro athletes that were informing the way that we wore our street clothes,” he says. “These athletes, like Agassi and Jordan, were at the top of their game and what they wore didn’t compromise on design or beauty.”

The Nike Air fear Of God 1 is a seriously impressive high-top right down to that contemporary Air unit or the chrome packaging that it arrives in.
